Killian Sweeney Named 2024 Haidee Antram Scholarship Award

Every year, Green Mountain Audubon awards the Haidee Antram Scholarship Award to a deserving young person who has worked at Audubon Vermont and displays a strong interest in birds and conservation. This year, GMAS awarded $2500 to Killian Sweeney, a senior at Mount Mansfield Union High School.

Killian has a long history with Audubon Vermont, beginning in 2012 when he attended Unschool, a monthly education program for home-schooled students, continuing through working as a Counselor in Training (CIT) from 2021 through 2023, and then moving into a Seasonal Educator role in 2024.

In the recommendation letter that Kim Guertin and her leadership team at Audubon Vermont wrote about him, they noted that, “Killian has evolved into a responsible caregiver, a clear communicator, and the kind of team player that co-workers rave about. He exemplifies what we hope the Youth Leadership Program at Audubon Vermont could be.”

“Killian has been a part of Audubon programming for years—it feels like we have watched him grow up,” says Debbie Archer, Director of Education at Audubon Vermont. “It’s incredible to see a former student become a teacher and to exemplify what we are trying to achieve through our Youth Leadership Program. I am so happy Killian was selected for the Haidee Antram award!”
