Join Audubon Vermont’s Conservation Program Manager Mark LaBarr as he discusses the success’ and challenges of managing the recovery of this endangered population over the past three decades. The presentation will begin with an overview of Common Tern breeding and nesting on Lake Champlain and will then shift to the different conservation methods that have been used over the years to protect Common Terns and the Green Mountain Audubon owned islands on which they nest. The talk will conclude with an update on current population status and conservation strategies for the future.
Mark has been with Audubon for more than 25 years. His work includes coordinating the Vermont Common Tern Recovery Project, the Champlain Valley Bird Initiative and the Green Mountain Audubon Center bird banding station. He has worked on bird projects from Hawaii to Belize studying everything from albatrosses to catbirds. Mark has a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Vermont and a Master’s in Education from St. Michael's College. He lives in Huntington at the Green Mountain Audubon Center.
