The Sparrows of Saxon Hill

Saxon Hill is a relatively new recreational area owned by Essex Town. Recently, a few birders have documented a variety of interesting bird species on the property, including Vesper Sparrows. Join Tom Jiamachello and Jacob Crawford on this walk to explore this property and its potential as a birding hotspot. Tom is a well-known birder and GMAS Board member, who lives in Essex Junction. Jacob is a student at UVM majoring in Wildlife Management, who first recognized Saxon Hill as a birding hotspot on VT eBird.

To get there travel on route 15 to Essex Center. At the junction of route 128 and route 15 bear right on route 15. About a mile down the road look for a right hand turn onto Allen Martin Road. Travel south on Allen Martin Road for less than a mile and take the first left turn onto Thompson Road. Drive to the end of Thompson Road. A large parking lot will be on your right, which is where we will meet.
