Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge supports a tremendous number of resident and migrating species. Members of Green Mountain Audubon Society invite you to join us in observing avian species in and near the refuge's Stephen Young Marsh. Afterward, birders are welcome to join Friends of the Missisquoi in a "Big Sit!" event in which birders will be using the observation platform at the marsh to observe as many bird species as they can from that location during daylight hours. To ensure an enjoyable birding experience, this trip is limited to 20 participants.
*Please Note - October 8 is also the start of bow and arrow season for deer. While hunters have access to parts of the refuge, the refuge manager says that very few bow hunters use the refuge. Friends of Missisquoi will still be doing the “Big Sit” at the marsh and report that they have never even seen hunters on the Stephen Young Marsh Trail as it is such a relatively small area. Based upon this information, we have decided to proceed with the walk, but wanted to make all participants aware of the situation.
